VPS vs VDS — what's the difference
VPS (Virtual Private Server) and VDS (Virtual Dedicated Server) are virtual servers with dedicated resources. The difference is only in terminology: VDS emphasises that your CPU and RAM are not shared with neighbours. In practice, renting a VDS server and renting a VPS is the same thing.
Unlike regular shared hosting, on a VPS you get full root access, can install any software, configure the network and manage resources without restrictions. This is SSD server hosting with full control — do whatever you need with it.
What VPS rental is good for
- Websites and web apps — a virtual server is cheaper than a dedicated one
- API services, bots, background jobs
- Databases and storage
- VPN, proxies, networking tools
- Test and staging environments
- Game servers and voice chats
- Trading bots and scrapers
VPS hosting FAQ
How is VPS different from regular hosting?
On shared hosting, resources are split between hundreds of sites — a noisy neighbour can eat your performance. On a VPS you get dedicated CPU, RAM and disk, plus full root access: install any software and configure the server the way you need.
Can I rent a VPS cheaply for a short term?
Yes, monthly billing with no minimum term. VPS hosting from $5/mo — affordable hosting with no hidden setup fees.
Which operating systems can I install?
Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS, AlmaLinux and Windows Server. You can also upload your own ISO. Reinstalling the OS takes a couple of minutes straight from the control panel.
What is NVMe SSD and why does it matter?
NVMe is a standard for connecting disks directly via PCIe. Read/write speeds are 5–7 times higher than regular SATA SSDs. Databases, caches and IO-heavy apps run noticeably faster on NVMe.
Does it include DDoS protection?
Yes. DDoS-protected hosting is a baseline feature on every plan, no upsell. We filter malicious traffic at the network level before it reaches your server.
How fast does a virtual server start after payment?
Usually within 2–5 minutes. You'll get a notification with SSH connection details as soon as the server is ready.
Can I scale resources later?
Yes. If the workload grows, contact support and we'll upgrade the plan. Data is preserved and downtime is minimal.
Where are the servers located?
In a data center in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Local traffic, low ping across Russia and good connectivity to Europe.
